Elon Musk Announces Plans to Compete With OpenAI and Google Through New Initiative ‘TruthGPT’

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, recently revealed his plans to create a third AI company to rival OpenAI and Google. Named “TruthGPT,” the goal is to create an AI which can truthfully understand the complexities of the universe and benefit the world. Despite having a disadvantage by starting late, he has already filed paperwork for a business and purchased thousands of DeepMind researchers for an unknown Twitter AI project. He has also been known to transfer employees across his companies. His motivations stem from his great concern of AI and the threat it might posses to humanity.

A company named OpenAI, which was help by Musk, was recently criticized for spinning off a for-profit business in conjunction with Microsoft. With the goal of increasing user privacy, Musk teased a “optional encryption” feature for direct messaging that will be released within this month or the next. He highly endorses the usage of Signal-style encryption in conversations that should be kept private.

OpenAI was founded by an investing syndicate of technology titans led by Elon Musk, Reid Hoffman, Peter Thiel, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and others in 2015, with a mission to “advance digital intelligence in the way that is most likely to benefit humanity as a whole”, exclusively in the public domain. Along with researching artificial general intelligence, OpenAI scholars develop understanding of the deployment of advanced artificial intelligence systems and the benefits to humanity by doing so. Openai aims to share the results of their research with the public, and provide free education for AI classes. Moreover, It is developing two main sets of technologies: advanced research and tools for developers.

Meanwhile Musk is a billionaire entrepreneur, inventor, and investor best known for founding the space exploration company SpaceX and commercial vehicle manufacturer Tesla. Musk originally made his fortune as a co-founder of PayPal, before joining the early stages of Tesla Motors in 2004. He soon became the CEO and drove the development of Tesla’s first car, the Model S. Musk went on to found SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink and SolarCity. He has also made numerous ambitious investments into artificial intelligence and renewable energy. Musk has become a vocal advocate for the development of realistic AI solutions and regularly warns of the dangers of artificial general intelligence.
