Ford to Begin Manufacturing Electric Explorer in Europe, First Models Expected in August, Germany

Ford is set to kickstart the production of its electric Explorer models in Europe this summer, with the first units expected to be delivered to customers in August. The American automaker intends to manufacture its initial electric Explorer vehicles on the continent, marking a significant step in its electrification strategy. The move comes as Ford aims to transition to an all-electric lineup in Europe by 2035, with plans to offer a total of nine electric vehicle models. By 2026, the company hopes to sell 600,000 EVs annually in Europe. The electric Explorer, described as a road-trip-ready mid-size SUV, will feature advanced driver assist technology and a generous amount of storage space. It will be available in two trims, the Explorer and Explorer Premium, with a starting price anticipated to be under $50,000 (€45,000). Ford’s second electric vehicle in Europe is slated to begin production by the end of 2024. The automaker is making substantial efforts to establish a strong presence in the European electric vehicle market and aims to leverage VW’s platform for its second EV. Cologne, where Ford’s European headquarters are located, will serve as the central hub for vehicle development and production. This latest development represents a delay of approximately eight months from the originally projected timeline, as the debut of the all-electric Explorer has been postponed. However, Ford is now poised to begin production in June. With the launch of its electric Explorer models, Ford aims to capitalize on the growing demand for electric vehicles and make significant strides in its electric vehicle market share in Europe.
