Massive Outage Hits OpenAI’s Popular ChatGPT on Android and Desktop
OpenAI’s widely-used chatbot, ChatGPT, has recently encountered a significant outage on both Android smartphones and desktops. Several users took to microblogging platform X (previously Twitter) to express their frustration over their inability to access ChatGPT during this outage. Furthermore, some users reported difficulties in retrieving their previous chats from the chatbot. According to Downdetector, approximately 600 users encountered issues with ChatGPT around 1 PM (IST), followed by 270 users reporting problems around 3 PM (IST).
This is not the first time that users have experienced outages with ChatGPT. Over the past few months, the chatbot has faced intermittent disruptions, with an outage occurring as recently as December 14 last year. The recurrence of these technical difficulties has been a source of frustration for users globally.
Interestingly, OpenAI announced the launch of the GPT Store just one day prior to this outage. The GPT Store allows individuals to share customized versions of OpenAI’s chatbot. Moreover, in an effort to cater to smaller teams within companies, OpenAI unveiled a new paid tier for ChatGPT starting at $25 per user per month.
It is crucial to note that OpenAI had initially introduced a corporate version of ChatGPT, boasting additional features and enhanced privacy safeguards, back in August.
The recent outage has once again raised concerns regarding the reliability and stability of ChatGPT. While some users rely on it for various applications, such as drafting emails, generating code, writing essays, or simply engaging in conversations, the recurring technical glitches have impacted their ability to rely on this tool consistently.
OpenAI is undoubtedly aware of the challenges faced by its users and will likely strive to address these ongoing issues, aiming for a more robust and uninterrupted experience with ChatGPT in the future.
