Qatar National Library Unveils Qatar 2022: Journey & Legacy Exhibition, Showcasing the First FIFA World Cup in the Middle East
Doha, Qatar: The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has unveiled the Qatar 2022: Journey & Legacy permanent exhibition at Qatar National Library (QNL). The event was attended by HE Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, State Minister and QNL President, as well as HE Hassan Al Thawadi, SC Secretary General.
The exhibition, located at the iconic Qatar National Library, tells the story behind Qatar hosting the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and Arab world. It covers everything from the initial bid to the actual tournament. Developed in collaboration with Microsoft, the exhibition utilizes Azure AI Services to extract valuable insights from a wide range of documents, images, and videos. By deploying a smart search engine, fans, researchers, and enthusiasts from around the world can explore rich content that highlights the various aspects that contributed to hosting the tournament.
We wanted to ensure that this momentous occasion in our country’s history is captured at the Library, considering the impact it had on Qatar’s development, stated Al Kawari, emphasizing the significance of the World Cup. As Qatar’s national library committed to archiving and documenting the nation’s history, QNL aims to commemorate the World Cup as a critical milestone for Qatar and the entire region. Hosting this collection offers an opportunity for visitors to engage with the exhibition in different ways.
The collection also includes a comprehensive database of the cultural heritage created during the tournament. In the future, the SC and QNL will work together to make this database accessible to the public, students, and various institutions in Qatar. This collaboration ensures that the collection is searchable and available to a wide range of audiences.
Al Thawadi believes that the exhibition encapsulates a defining moment in Qatar’s history and will leave a lasting legacy for future generations. The World Cup in Qatar gave us an opportunity to accelerate the plans set out for our country in the Qatar National Vision 2030, showcasing our potential and cultural depth, said Al Thawadi. This exhibition aims to capture the countless ways in which the tournament impacted the lives of those who contributed, spectators, and the programs and initiatives that emerged as a result.
Visitors to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Knowledge exhibit will have the option to download selected films and photographs to their personal devices. Situated on ‘The Bridge’ of Qatar National Library in Qatar Foundation’s Education City, the exhibition promises to provide a captivating experience for all. With its commitment to showcasing Qatar’s successful journey in hosting the World Cup, this exhibition stands as a testament to the nation’s achievements and its impact on the global stage.
