PlayStation 5 Pro to Feature AI Upscaling, Leaked Slide Suggests

Date:

Sony’s highly anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro console is rumored to feature AI upscaling, according to a leaked slide that has been making the rounds online. The slide, part of the recent Insomniac Games leak, reveals some of the advanced technology that will be incorporated into the upcoming game Marvel’s Wolverine.

Aside from film-quality facial animation, improved destruction, real-time damage and regeneration, real-time global illumination, dynamic weather and foliage, deformable surfaces, and enhanced locomotion, the game will also showcase AI upscaling powered by machine learning. This indicates that the PlayStation 5 Pro will likely be the only console in Sony’s lineup to support this technology, as the PlayStation 5 lacks dedicated hardware for AI upscaling.

The leak also suggests that the PlayStation 5 Pro will boast a base framerate of 60 frames per second in performance ray tracing mode. While some may speculate that this refers to AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) support, it is important to note that the technology mentioned in the slide is distinct from FSR. NVIDIA’s DLSS utilizes machine learning, unlike FSR, making it a more probable match for the PlayStation 5 Pro’s capabilities.

This recent leak aligns with a previous report indicating that the PlayStation 5 Pro will feature dedicated hardware for AI upscaling. Although the leak’s accuracy remains unverified, it seems plausible, particularly in regard to the console’s central processing unit (CPU). Speculation suggests that a Zen 2 CPU would be the most logical choice in terms of manufacturing costs.

As of now, Sony has not officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro. However, fans can expect further updates and announcements in the near future. Stay tuned for the latest news on this highly anticipated console.
