OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman made the announcement during a recent discussion about the safety concerns raised by an open letter, signed purportedly by Elon Musk. Altman noted that OpenAI is taking the necessary steps towards improving the safety standards for its AI language models, which could mean that ChatGPT-4 will remain one of the most widely used language models in the world.
OpenAI initially released its GPT-3 language model, which was swiftly followed by the advanced GPT-4 language model. OpenAI’s GPT-4 was powering Microsoft’s Bing Chat even before its official launch. Currently, the GPT-4 language model is available through the ChatGPT Plus platform, however, users can also access some of its features under the free version or in apps such as Bing Chat and Petey for Apple Watch.
However, while there have been rumors of the next GPT-5 language model, OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has made it clear that the company currently has other priorities, such as the improvement of its current GPT-4 language model. According to Altman, OpenAI spent over six months training GPT-4 before it was officially released to the public. He further explained that as AI technology progresses and its capabilities become more serious, the safety standards must also follow. Thus, the company is now focused on finding ways to develop and improve the safety of their language models.
