German Media Company Axel Springer Teams Up with OpenAI to Power ChatGPT’s Global News Summaries, Germany

German media company Axel Springer has partnered with OpenAI, a research company backed by Microsoft, to utilize OpenAI’s ChatGPT for journalism purposes. This collaboration marks the first of its kind between a publishing company and an AI research company. Through this partnership, ChatGPT, which is powered by OpenAI’s advanced model GPT-4, will gain access to and summarize content from Axel Springer’s media brands, including Politico, Business Insider, Bild, and Welt. By leveraging ChatGPT, users will be provided with summaries of selected global news content, including premium paid content. Additionally, the partnership aims to enhance the training of OpenAI’s language models, benefiting Axel Springer’s existing AI-driven ventures. Axel Springer’s CEO, Mathias Döpfner, expressed the desire to elevate the quality, societal relevance, and business model of journalism through empowered AI journalism. Both companies are committed to exploring the potential of AI tools in providing new and accessible ways for people to obtain real-time news content.
