Elon Musk Launches AI Company to Compete With ChatGPT

Date:

Elon Musk, an entrepreneur renowned for his involvement in the tech world, has recently made a bold move of creating an artificial intelligence (AI) company, X.AI, in opposition to the popular ChatGPT. Just two weeks ago, he was part of a large group of 1,800 people calling for a halt to research into AI technology, a stark contrast to the recent decision.

The ambition of the new venture is to recreate the ubiquitous WeChat experience already established in China, facilitating video calls, shopping, chat and appointment making within one app. DeepMind scientist Igor Babuschkin has recently come on board to join the project, in addition to Musk’s purchase of 10,000 GPUs, which aid in developing language models integral to AI.

X.AI is another addition to Musk’s expansive entrepreneurial collection; the technology mogul was previously a co-founder of Open AI, a company that introduced the revolutionary language-generating ChatGPT. Though he left the Open AI team three years ago, Musk has criticized his colleagues for allowing ChatGPT’s popularity to take off. To take this vision further, Musk has even gone as far as to re-brand his Twitter as X Corp.

Musk’s X.AI will strive to unlock further potential in the realm of artificial intelligence, an area he himself is both an advocate and critic of. While the decision has been met with a mix of surprise and admiration, only the future can reveal the true success of the venture.
