HK Woman Angry at Husband for Using ChatGPT to Name Their Baby: Who is the Father?

Date:

AI has been gaining a lot of attention as of lately, and with the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, tech companies have been eager to replicate that same “wow” factor. Seeing the progress has been made, one mother-to-be from Hong Kong is opposed to her husband relying on the technology for such a personal endeavor. She shared her frustrations on the online forum DiscussHK, asking the all too important question: “Who is the daddy? My husband or AI?”

Her husband had asked the ChatGPT to provide a Chinese name for their soon-to-be-born baby. He wanted the child to be intelligent, handsome, tall and lucky, characteristics that the chatbot picked up on and answered with a list of Chinese names such as Zhiyu, which means wise universe, Meifeng which means beautiful mountains, Mingli which means understand things and Yongyi which means brave and resolute. As he presented these options to his wife, the woman was not pleased, considering her husband was too lazy to think for himself and instead tasked a computer with such an important job.

OpenAI, who created ChatGPT, is one of the leading companies, providing Artificial Intelligence technology and other Natural Language Processing services. They have invested millions in developing AI technology, as research has shown that exploring this field can help create massive improvements in various sectors such as healthcare, transportation, and education.

The incident mentioned previously enlightened the ethical and emotional drawbacks of relying too heavily on such technology, for personal decisions and matters. Together, the couple must work through this difficult time and find a name that would meet all of their expectations. One hopes the husband can learn his lesson, and that he can repair his relationship with his wife, so that they can look forward to the new life they are creating together.
