Leading AI researcher and cognitive scientist Ben Goertzel has warned that the future versions of ChatGPT have the potential to replace many tasks currently performed by humans. Goertzel is known for co-developing Sophia the Robot and believes that the new large language models that power generative AI will transform the world. Goertzel points out that many jobs that don’t require a great deal of creativity or innovation, such as drive-through fast-food workers, copy editors, and designers, are already being impacted by automation and AI tools. Consequently, companies like BlueFocus, a China-based public relations and marketing agency, is replacing third-party copy writers, designers and short-term contractors to fully embrace generative AI like ChatGPT.
This shift has been reflected in the sharp increase of apps with terms like ‘AI Chatbot’ or ‘AI Chat’ cropping up on Google and Apple app stores. Apptopia, an analytics firm, reports that in just 2020 (through March), 158 such apps were released on app stores, which is a 1,480% increase year-over-year.
On the other hand, jobs where the essence is human contact, such as preschool teachers, political strategists, and artists, are unlikely to be automated. Goertzel believes today’s generative AIs are able to mimic general AIs due to the broad variety of training data. Nevertheless, the power of these computer networks and multi-GPU server farms is evident as they are capable of carrying out these tasks relatively easily.
BlueFocus is a Chinese multinational conglomerate which provides integrated branding, digital marketing, advertising and creative services to its clients all over the world. The company is headquartered in Beijing and has offices in the US, UK, and India, among other countries. BlueFocus has been pushing for the adoption of generative AI like ChatGPT, to replace third-party copy writers, designers and short-term contractors, and this move has proven to be a success.
