Easing Secret Multiple Jobs with ChatGPT and Similar Technologies for Remote Workers

Date:

As more and more people shift to remote work, there has been a rise in overemployment of those seeking to maximize their earnings. AI-powered programs such as ChatGPT are making it easier for workers to hold more than one full-time job without their employers/clients knowing. In a survey by the job site Monster earlier this year, 37% of respondents said they had more than one full-time job, and ChatGPT and its ilk have enabled those who have embraced overemployment to not just do two jobs, but to do them with time left to spare — or even three or four jobs if they are willing to sacrifice their wellbeing.

ChatGPT and other AI-powered technologies have made many jobs much more efficient, allowing workers to quickly and easily complete tasks. According to an article from Vice, one individual who is a member of the overemployed community uses ChatGPT to do two jobs and earns around $500,000 a year. Another individual from Ohio has upped his jobs from two to four, utilizing ChatGPT and other AI-powered tools.

To further demonstrate the efficiency of AI-enabled tools like ChatGPT, Ethan Mollick, a management professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, gave them 30 minutes to work on a business project. The results were “superhuman,” with tasks being completed in minutes that could have taken days to do with a team. With this level of efficiency, it is no wonder why some have resorted to using these programs in order to maximize their income.

While it may seem advantageous to some, this raises concerns for employers and investors. If A.I.-enabled programs can complete tasks more quickly, it may make it easier for workers to hold more than one job without raising suspicion. Companies must quickly learn to adjust to this new reality and ensure they are aware of workers’ activities — they wouldn’t want their employees to burn out or be exposed.

ChatGPT is an A.I.-powered program designed to make tasks simpler and more efficient. It was created by Pacific AI, a San Francisco-based company that develops systems for machine learning and artificial intelligence. The company was founded by former Google employees and is led by CEO Mittal Shah. Pacific AI specializes in building industry-specific tools that can use machine learning and artificial intelligence to automate and streamline processes in a range of fields from advertising to healthcare.
