AI startup Cohere unveils new Chat API and Coral demo chatbot for seamless integration

AI startup Cohere is taking on competitors like OpenAI with the release of its new Chat API and Coral demo chatbot. The Chat API allows developers to integrate Cohere’s large language model, Command, into their own applications, making it easier to build knowledge assistants and customer support chatbots. The API’s Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) capability gives developers control over the data sources used by the chatbot for specific prompts, improving accuracy and relevance. Cohere also unveiled its chatbot, Coral, which can now be tested by users through the Coral Showcase. Although Coral’s response times were slower than OpenAI’s ChatGPT, its responses were accurate and supported by cited sources. Developers can enhance their chatbots through modular components provided by Cohere, such as the query-generation and document components. Cohere’s models, including Command LLM, are powered by Transformers, a type of neural network optimized for text processing. Cohere’s CEO, Aidan Gomez, co-authored an academic paper on Transformers and believes they will become more capable in the future. Cohere’s models can also be fine-tuned by training them on proprietary datasets. The startup is recognized as a major rival to OpenAI and aims to deliver sophisticated AI models for various applications.
