Microsoft’s SwiftKey, the popular keyboard app, is introducing an AI-powered editor feature called Microsoft Editor for Android users. This new addition aims to enhance writing by auto-correcting up to 500 words at once and even changing the tone of the message. It is part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI into its products and services.
Microsoft Editor for SwiftKey is a free service that functions similarly to Grammarly, helping users avoid misspellings and poorly worded text messages and emails. While it is currently only available on the Android version of the app, eager users can gain early access to the feature by enrolling in the free beta.
YouTuber Shane Craig recently demonstrated how Microsoft Editor for SwiftKey works, also providing a step-by-step guide to accessing the beta version. In the demonstration, Craig highlighted that the new feature can be found in the quick-access bar above the keyboard, marked with the Microsoft Editor pencil logo. He suggested moving it to the main line for easier access.
To utilize the feature, users simply need to type into the text box and then click on the Editor icon. Microsoft will then analyze the text for errors and present the corrected version. Users have the option to either replace the original text with the corrected version or copy it separately. Furthermore, by clicking on the Tone option, users can change the tone of the message, choosing between options like funny, professional, and social post. For more extensive writing, users can click on Compose to access a dedicated composition window.
However, as the feature is still in beta, there might be some bugs that need to be ironed out. Users could encounter issues when uploading or downloading grammar-corrected or tone-corrected content. Despite these minor hurdles, it is expected that the feature will improve before heading into SwiftKey’s production version.
With Microsoft Editor, SwiftKey users will have a powerful tool at their disposal to enhance their writing quality. The AI-powered auto-correct and tone-changing capabilities will ensure that messages, emails, and social media posts are free from errors and effectively convey the desired tone.
