ChatGPT is one of the biggest tech trends of recent years, prompting many companies to try and implement it. Microsoft was one of the companies that decided to do so by outfitting its Edge browser with its own version of ChatGPT to create an even better solution than the one offered by OpenAI.
Bing AI, Microsoft’s own version of ChatGPT, can be used to chat with someone, create content such as poetry and stories, get information on a website that is currently open in the browser, as well as create logos and drawings. The question is: is this AI better than ChatGPT? The truth is that both chatbots are works in progress that have a lot of similarities and while Microsoft has heavily invested in the development of ChatGPT, using Bing AI could make more sense for certain users.
In order to use the Bing AI, one needs to have the Microsoft Edge browser installed which is a default on Windows 10 and Windows 11 but can be downloaded for Mac and older versions of Windows. In addition, it is available for mobile devices via the Edge, Bing and Skype mobile apps for Android and iOS.
When you launch the platform, you will be asked to sign in with a Microsoft account. There is also an option to set a conversation style for Bing AI when you scroll down the sidebar of examples of possible questions. You can choose between three options for this, or let the AI stay at the Balanced level by default.
The Get the best experience with relevant responses section allows Bing AI to analyze the open website content to provide better responses, although you have the option to decline if you’re concerned about privacy. After that, users can start chatting, using either their keyboard or even their voice if they have the mobile app.
In addition, users can also ask the AI to write poems, stories, reports and even computer code. To do this, one needs to click the Compose heading, then choose the desired tone (professional, casual, enthusiastic, informational or funny), the format (paragraph, email, blog post, ideas) and the length (short, medium, long). All of this can be powered by using OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 image creator and you can even ask the AI to create an image from a text input.
Finally, Microsoft’s Bing AI also offers information and choices from the currently open web page by clicking on the Insights option in the sidebar. Through all this, Bing AI looks like a powerful tool, especially for those already used to working with Microsoft’s own products.
