The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced on Thursday that it has established a task force to investigate ChatGPT, the popular chatbot developed by OpenAI, a Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence (AI) company. According to the statement, the task force has been created with the purpose of exchanging information related to potential enforcement actions taken by data protection authorities.
Following the temporary suspension of ChatGPT in Italy due to privacy issues, the EDPB concluded that enforcement action had been undertaken by the Italian Data Protection Authority against OpenAI. Similarly, Germany and Spain have announced future potential limitations on the use of ChatGPT based on data privacy issues.
OpenAI, known as an AI pioneer, is currently working to reconcile the concerns of the Italian Data Protection Authority, which pointed out that OpenAI had not collected user data or assessed the age of its users. OpenAI had to disable a history feature of its ChatGPT bot last month after some users reported seeing conversations of other users.
