TCS Launches Generative AI Tools for Enterprise Solutions

Date:

As the use of generative AI and GPT-like technologies continues to rise, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is also developing AI tools designed to code enterprise-level solutions for its customers. In an interview with Businessline, N Ganapathy Subramaniam, TCS Chief Operating Officer, described how the company had been utilizing automation for more than two decades with its cognitive automation product, MasterCraft. This technology is able to rework existing code and craft new solutions. Subramaniam then expressed that the next steps for TCS are to refine the product by introducing generative AI technologies that can construct whole enterprise level solutions.

The MasterCraft tool is applied to create code for various applications, and Subramaniam believes that development of further tools with generative features could take anywhere from six months to two years. Such generative AI tools have the potential to create complex algorithms that could resolve complex problems that face business on all levels. With this technology, many jobs, such as writing coding solutions, could become redundant.

In view of this, Subramaniam suggests that another set of roles will be created for ‘prompt engineers’. These engineers will have specialized knowledge of the technical aspect combined with the contextual knowledge of the industry they are working in, but they must also have a sense of design thinking. These professional are tasked with creating timely and precise prompts for these AI systems in order to attain accurate results quickly.

Despite a transition occurring to the AI systems, TCS is determined to help its employees remain a vital part of the business. Subramaniam hopes to retrain the company’s developers, providing them with interactive and engaging lessons on this new technology, to ensure they remain competitive in the ever-evolving landscape.
