Deadline Set by Elon Musk For Removing Twitter Verified Checkmarks From Legacy Accounts

Date:

In recent news, tech tycoon and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk has set a new deadline of April 20th to remove verified retired checkmarks from all legacy accounts on Twitter. Details earlier emerged that Twitter does not have the backend technology to remove around 4.2 lakh legacy accounts with the blue tick, all at once. Hence, the only way currently to remove these blue checkmarks is by manual approach.

This new deadline arrived after a previous deadline of April 1st was not met due to lack of technical capabilities to remove the checkmarks. In this regard, Elon Musk said in a tweet that “Final date for removing legacy Blue checks is 4/20”.

The blue badge was officially launched by Twitter in 2009 to protect celebrities and public figures from being impersonated. However, now Musk wants everyone to pay $8 a month for this exclusive verified badge with a subscription service. Surprisingly, The White House and The New York Times refused to pay for the verified badge and decided not to take part in this subscription service. Moreover, the world’s 2018 highest paid athlete and NBA star, LeBron James also refused to pay for the blue badge .
