California-based open-source database company, MotherDuck, has announced the launch of its cloud analytics platform, built on DuckDB, its open-source database for analytics use cases. Developed with the aim of reducing the complexity of analytics databases, DuckDB is an in-process SQL-compatible platform designed for local data analysis. MotherDuck’s new serverless cloud analytics platform is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses, giving them the ability to operationalise their data without the complexity that comes with big data analytics. Co-founder and former Google BigQuery engineer, Jordan Tigani, believes the combined innovation between the company’s new platform and DuckDB will play a critical role in the evolution of the modern data stack.
