ElevenLabs, a one-year-old AI startup by former Google and Palantir employees, has raised $19 million in a Series A round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), former Github CEO Nat Friedman, and former Apple AI leader Daniel Gross, among others. The company focuses on creating new text-to-speech and voice cloning tools for a range of applications. Already, ElevenLabs claims to have over a million creators and developers from various industries who have collectively generated more than 10 years of audio content. Available products include Speech Synthesis, VoiceLab, and the newly unveiled AI Speech Classifier with an API, identifying AI-generated audio from ElevenLabs. The company has also promised two other upcoming products: an AI dubbing tool and Publishers Projects, an audio production app. However, ElevenLabs has posted a Voice Cloning Guide on its website that warns against illegal uses that infringe on the law, such as fraud, discrimination, and hate speech.
