OpenAI competitor emphasizes the need for Asia-focused AI technology localization

Stability AI, a startup based in London, is tailoring its generative artificial intelligence to meet the needs of users in Japan. This Asia localization initiative comes after the successful launch of ChatGPT and concerns over cultural biases due to Western and English-language data sources. In a few weeks, Stability AI plans to release an experimental version of its Japanese-language AI tool, followed by a commercial release aimed at competing with ChatGPT by year-end. Jerry Chi, who leads the company’s Japan operations, shared the news with Nikkei Asia. Stability AI is the developer of Stable Diffusion, an AI-powered text-to-image generator. This is a significant development as the use of AI in Japan is on the rise, and there is a need for tools that cater to both the language and culture of the market.
