Indian software-as-a-service provider Zoho is developing its own large language model (LLM) that will rival those created by Google and OpenAI. Zoho CEO and founder Sridhar Vembu is leading the development of the LLM, though the company has not set a completion date. Zoho’s Vice President Praval Singh said the firm had been working in AI for a decade, and had integrated 13 apps with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The Chennai-based company also launched its privacy-centred browser, Ulaa, in May, while also being valued at over $1bn earlier this year. Last week, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said his comments about Indian firms competing with OpenAI on a budget of $10m were taken out of context.
