AI-Generated Discoveries: ChatGPT Creator Sam Altsam Discusses the Future of Innovation

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, spoke about using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate new ideas and discoveries for the progress of human knowledge during a recent discussion in Jakarta. Altman believes that large language models (LLMs) have the potential to solve diverse problems humans face, including climate change, better cooperation between nations, finding cures for all diseases, and discovering optimal methods for student learning. However, he said a new research paradigm is required to improve LLMs. The research paradigm he referred to involves an LLM learning information from multiple sources and being able to think when facing a problem. From the results of the learning and thinking process, the system can come up with new ideas that did not already exist as solutions. Altman stated that he is excited about the potential of AI in discovering new ideas that can help us make faster scientific progress.
