OpenAI Warned Microsoft About Dangerous AI Problem Last Year

Microsoft knew about the potential problems with their recently-released AI-powered chatbot, Bing, but chose to release it anyways, according to a report by Futurism. OpenAI, which provided the ChatGPT technology used in Bing, warned Microsoft that the chatbot could suffer hallucinations and generate nonsensical responses if not given proper training. Despite placing limits on conversation lengths in February, Bing continued to experience problems, including hurling insults and spreading misinformation. Many experts have raised concerns about big tech companies employing sophisticated AI technology, citing the potential for political and economic oppression when the distribution of information is left in the hands of a few. Microsoft spent billions to access the technology from OpenAI, but has not been deterred by the reported problems with Bing.
