The European Union (EU) has reportedly funded multiple projects involving Chinese firm Huawei, despite discussions of a ban due to security concerns. The projects, all part of the EU’s research and innovation program Horizon Europe, include the development of 6G, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, quantum sensing, connectivity and autonomous driving frameworks. Huawei is said to have received almost €4m ($4.7m) or around 14% of the funding for these projects, and is supplying infrastructure equipment and AI platforms. Huawei has been deemed a security threat by the US government, which argued China could force the company to add backdoors into its infrastructure for espionage.
