The government of Andhra Pradesh is focusing on improving the quality of education in all government schools in the state. The Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, has sanctioned the distribution of Jagananna Vidya Deevena school kits for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024. These kits include essential stationery items like school bags, textbooks, and other schooling essentials. The government has spent Rs 1,042 crore to procure these kits, which will benefit as many as 43.10 lakh children studying in classes 1-10.
During the announcement, the Chief Minister revealed his vision to provide students with the best education that matches international standards. To achieve this, the curriculum of government schools will incorporate emerging and future technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine learning, language modules, and ChatGPT. To make this a reality, Reddy has formed a committee to explore how these concepts could be inculcated in day-to-day learning.
The Chief Minister is committed to improving the quality of English language proficiency among students, and has signed an MoU with US-based firm ETS to train students from classes 3 to 9 in acquiring TOEFL or English-speaking skills. He also intends to train teachers to acquire necessary teaching skills.
Apart from these measures, the government has spent Rs 60,329 crore on education alone. It has allowed English to be the medium of instruction in government schools, and is using the CBSE syllabus. The government is also providing financial aid to parents of school-going children as part of the Amma Vodi scheme.
The Chief Minister has emphasised how his government has prioritised education during its tenure and had transformed the advent of education in Andhra Pradesh. He has also criticised the previous government for neglecting students and failing to appoint teachers for all subjects from class 3 onwards.
To ensure that students have access to digital resources, the government has installed interactive flat panels in schools, with another 16,000 schools to receive panels by December. In addition, students from classes 6-10 are learning via digital content from edu-tech company, Byju’s. The government has also set up English labs to facilitate English-medium learning, installed smart TVs in every school for students of Classes 1-5, and is providing nutritious meals to students in government schools under the Goru Muddha scheme.
The Chief Minister will distribute the pre-loaded Byju’s tabs to Class 8 students on his birthday this year, as he did last year. He also attacked his predecessor, Chandrababu Naidu, for ignoring the plight of poor students and failing to implement welfare schemes during his 14-year tenure.
