Samsung Employees Make Major Mistake Using ChatGPT

Date:

In a major breach of trust and security, Samsung workers have made a costly misstep due to the use of ChatGPT AI. The company allowed engineers in its semiconductor arm to use the AI writer with access to confidential source code, resulting in three reported instances of customer data being exposed. In this outrageous display of irresponsibility, Samsung meeting notes and new source code have been leaked.

The implications of this data leak are huge, as industry-leading competitor could now have an edge in the market. OpenAI, the developers of the AI service, retain user input and therefore have access to all this confidential data.

In response, Samsung Semiconductor have taken preventative measures by developing their own in-house AI system with data limits to 1024 bytes per prompt. This new risk-management system should bring a sense of safety to those employees’ already under scrutiny for the breaches.

Samsung Electronics has since issued a warning down the chain of command, reminding their staff of the sensitivity of the data. As legal regulations such as GDPR impose restrictions on how companies collect and use customer data, the trade secrets leaked by ChatGPT may not agree with the legal standards of the EU. Italy, for example has since banned the use of the service nationwide.

The company of Samsung is a South Korean conglomerate headquartered in Seoul. It is one of the largest business groups in the world, comprised of numerous subsidiaries and affiliated businesses. On the cutting-edge of technology, the company manufactures consumer electronics, telecommunications and home appliances, with its most recent statistics registering revenue of $205 billion USD.
