Google Android App to Add Drag-and-Drop Feature for Search Results

Google’s search app for Android will soon introduce a drag-and-drop feature, according to a video posted on the unofficial Google news group by Telegram user, @theoj22. The feature is still under development and not visible to the public. Unlike the typical direct link suggestions, the new feature will automatically bring up search results from where the dragged link, text or image was dropped. Once the feature is launched, it could become a real game-changer, however, the integration of generative AI directly into search results could be dangerous. It could drive down the visibility of verified sites as the top spots are filled with Google’s suggested answers and ‘sources’. This could lead to the decline of digital journalism since revenue from online traffic is crucial to the survival of websites. The second perceived danger is the use of an Adobe-powered AI image generator called Google Bard, which is perceived could plagiarise art online. While Mozilla Firefox has initiated the Responsible AI Challenge to hold AI accountable, tech companies need to focus on ensuring proper regulation and tangible solutions to actual problems.
