OpenAI CEO Loses Sleep Over Decision to Release ChatGPT

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has admitted to being fearful of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and losing sleep due to ChatGPT’s release, according to a live panel interview with the Times of India. Altman expressed concern that ChatGPT could cause an acceleration in the creation of new AI systems with complexities that he and his peers didn’t understand before its launch. Altman has previously confessed his anxieties regarding the future of AI, from concerns about competitors creating “evil algorithms” to his signature on an open letter warning about AI causing an “extinction event”. Despite these fears, Altman has not suggested that OpenAI shouldn’t have launched ChatGPT, nor that the chatbot’s disruption so far might not be a good thing. Business is booming, and Altman has continually expressed the “job change” that ChatGPT could bring to society.
