OpenAI Asked for Clarification on Handling in Netherlands

The Dutch data protection authority, AP, has requested clarification from OpenAI, L.L.C. on the handling of personal data when using generative artificial intelligence, specifically ChatGPT. The AP is concerned about how OpenAI collects and uses personal data from the internet, and whether people’s questions are used to train the algorithm behind ChatGPT. Additionally, the AP has expressed concerns about the accuracy, appropriateness, and potential offensive content that may arise from ChatGPT-generated answers. To address these concerns, the AP has sought clarification from OpenAI on how it handles personal data when training ChatGPT and how it can rectify or delete inaccurate or inappropriate generated content. The European Data Protection Board has established a task force with other privacy regulators to facilitate information exchange and coordinate joint action in response to concerns about ChatGPT.
