OpenAI’s Sam Altman discusses AI opportunities in India and the need for regulation with PM Modi

OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, met with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on 8 June to discuss the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. Altman praised Modi’s enthusiasm and knowledge of AI. The meeting comes as the Indian government looks to introduce the Digital Indian Bill, which will regulate AI and replace the Information Technology (IT) Act. Altman suggested that India has embraced OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology. They also discussed India’s flagship AI programme and the global regulation of AI. The AI regulation approach proposed by Altman has previously been challenged by India’s Minister of State for Information and Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
