Study Finds ChatGPT Superior to Alexa and other AI in Online Medical Advice

Date:

Move aside WebMD, an AI-powered chatbot called ChatGPT is giving superior medical advice. A study published in the JAMA Network Open found that ChatGPT gave evidence-based health advice to 91% of 23 common medical questions asked to a group of researchers ranging from headaches to suicide. The AI technology was able to provide “nearly human-quality responses” of between 183-274 words each. Competitors such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Samsung’s Bixby only recognised 5% of same questions. ChatGPT is controlled by Microsoft, with the AI chatbot able to grow smarter as more knowledge is assimilated, making it more able to mimic human behaviour. The technology has the potential to reduce reliance on costly office visits whilst providing reliable medical advice. Nevertheless, some concerns remain, including the problem that ChatGPT does not connect users to human resources for most health queries.
