OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Aims for Freedom to Make Unconventional Decisions, Opposes Going Public.

Date:

OpenAI, the technology startup behind ChatGPT, has no plans to go public, according to CEO Sam Altman. At an event in Abu Dhabi, Altman said that he wants to maintain complete control of the company’s technology, as he anticipates that we’re likely to make some decisions that public market investors would view very strangely. Altman added that he likes being non-conflicted and that the chance that we have to make a very strange decision someday is non-trivial. OpenAI recently received a $10bn investment from Microsoft, which valued the company at $29bn. The startup unveiled its new GPT-4 model earlier this year, which Altman described as more creative and less biased than earlier versions.
