Apple CEO Acknowledges Machine Learning as Technology behind New Product, Denies AI Label

Date:

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has denied that the technology behind their new products is Artificial Intelligence (AI), but is instead powered by machine learning. These products, which include apps that recognise faces in photos and provide writing prompts for journaling, are seen as having great promise, but Cook has also acknowledged the potential harm that AI poses. He has warned that companies need to make ethical decisions when developing products that have the potential to spread bias and misinformation. This comes as senior figures in the field of AI have come together to call for measures to mitigate the risk of AI-induced extinction. Tech adviser to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has also expressed his concerns that AI could become so powerful that it may be able to kill many humans if policymakers are not prepared for the threats posed.
