Why You Should Also Dislike WordPress’s New AI Tool

Date:

WordPress, the world’s largest blogging platform, is introducing a new AI plug-in called Jetpack AI Assistant that allows users to generate and edit text. The AI tool is provided by Automattic, the company that owns and contributes to the development of the open-source WordPress platform, and is currently available for free to WordPress users, while those who use Jetpack separately from WordPress receive 20 free requests with a monthly $10 fee after that.

With the ability to summarize a blog post into a concise headline, adjust the tone of text and produce an entire blog post from a single prompt, the Jetpack AI Assistant is designed to save creators time and effort by streamlining content creation. The tool also corrects grammar and spelling errors and can translate between 12 different languages.

While the new AI tool may be welcome news for those who struggle with generating content and keeping up with regular posting, concerns have arisen that this technology may do more harm than good in the long run. Copywriters are already losing work as potential clients switch over to AI tools like ChatGPT, and there is a concern that the internet could become flooded with AI-generated spam content, which can often be bland and obviously written by a bot.

Furthermore, the authenticity of online content could be compromised if hollow blogs become prevalent, providing no useful or insightful content, and being entirely written and run by AI. However, WordPress states that its Jetpack AI Assistant is a creative writing partner that will help users to generate diverse content at your command,” indicating that it is not intended to replace human-generated content completely.

While there are potential downsides to the use of such AI tools, the Jetpack AI Assistant represents the latest step in the evolution of generative AI in content management and blogging platforms.
