AI Regulations Should Not Apply to Smaller Startups, Says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes that smaller companies working on artificial intelligence should not be subject to AI-related regulations. Speaking at the ‘ET Conversations’ event in New Delhi, Altman stated that only larger companies, including OpenAI itself, should be subject to regulations. While acknowledging concerns about the darker aspects of AI, Altman called for nuance in discussions around AI regulation. Despite the technology being over-hyped in the short term, he believes that AI is under-hyped in the long term. Altman also stated that OpenAI is not currently training GPT5 and that it has a lot of work to do before launching it.
