Qualcomm’s Plan to Empower Open XR Movement: Interview with Hugo Swart

Date:

Qualcomm is aiming to bolster the open side of the metaverse industry, with the wider adoption of its APIs. XR at Qualcomm’s Head, Hugo Swart, said the company’s latest products are designed to operate as part of a distributed computing environment, paving the way for immersive experiences capable of running in less than a watt of power. He stated that the future lies in a range of products using varied sensor technology and claims that the company’s decision to keep devices open paves the way for more innovation in direct contrast to Apple’s latest Vision Pro headset, announced last week. Qualcomm’s technology will underpin the forthcoming Meta Quest 3 VR headset and the OpenXR APIs are slated to become compatible with the hardware of DigiLens and DCL. The developer’s event, AWE, allowed the tech firm to showcase device designs and software applications created alongside a range of diverse industry partners.
