Israeli President Herzog Meets with OpenAI CEO, Creator of ChatGPT

Date:

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has emphasized the need for an international convention on artificial intelligence (AI) during his recent meeting with Sam Altman, CEO and co-founder of OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT. Altman visited Israel to raise awareness of AI’s risks and promote ethical development of the technology.

During the meeting, Herzog said that ChatGPT and other AI tools created by OpenAI have enormous potential, but also pose great risks, including threatening the independence of human beings in the future. Herzog cited the issues of ethics, morality, and fake news, and compared the development of AI to developing nuclear weapons.

We must make sure that this development is used for the wellbeing of humanity, Herzog added.

Altman, who signed an open letter on AI risks along with other industry leaders, expressed pleasure at visiting Israel and acknowledged the country’s impressive tech community. He said that Israel could play a key role in using AI for positive benefits while ensuring its ethical development.

Herzog concluded with the concept of Tikkun Olam, which means repairing the world, and invited Altman to join him in pursuing this goal together. The meeting reflects growing concern among international leaders over the risks and ethical implications of AI development.
