Japan Warns OpenAI Creator of ChatGPT about Privacy Laws and Potential Consequences

Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission has warned OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, about data privacy concerns. The commission has said that OpenAI should minimize the sensitive data it collects for machine learning and warned that action might be taken if there are any further concerns. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot that is used for various tasks such as writing essays, content creation ideas, simplifying complex information, and composing poetry. However, concerns about ChatGPT collecting user data have been raised by several nations, including Italy, which banned ChatGPT in April due to privacy concerns. OpenAI was asked to restrict the chatbot’s access for users in Italy after the country’s data protection authority accused it of unlawfully collecting personal data from users. The ban was reversed on April 28 after OpenAI took certain measures to ensure user safety.
