Mozilla’s Responsible AI Challenge has named its winners, with the top prize going to Sanative AI. The start-up received a $50,000 cash prize for providing anti-AI watermarks for protection against using images and artwork as training data for diffusion models. The challenge was part of the Mozilla Builders programme, which aimed to develop ethical AI programmes, products, and solutions. Second place in the contest and a cash prize of $30,000 was awarded to Kwanele Chat Bot, which provides quick access to help for women in violent communities and collects evidence. Lastly, Nolano, a trained language model that utilises natural language processing, won a $20,000 cash prize. Mozilla recently invested $30m in Mozilla.ai, an initiative that aims to create a third space for AI tech development.

At the heart of the digital firm behind the eponymous web browser is the Mozilla Foundation, a non-profit organisation that stands for an open and safer internet. The company places its emphasis on privacy and security. It offers a range of products and services, including the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser, in addition to a range of add-ons that can be incorporated into the browser.

Liv Erickson is Mozilla’s innovation ecosystem development lead. She has played a significant role in the development of Mozilla’s projects, including the Responsible AI Challenge and Mozilla.ai.
