Asus to Provide Local AI Servers for Office Use Similar to ChatGPT Style

Date:

Asus, the Taiwanese computer company, is set to introduce a rental business AI server, named AFS Appliance, running an AI language model on-site to address data control issues and security concerns relating to cloud-based AI systems. Nvidia chips will power the service, running an AI language model called Formosa that Asus says is equivalent to OpenAI’s GPT-3.5. Its highest-powered server, based on Nvidia’s DGX AI platform, will cost around $10,000 per month to rent, with a less powerful version rented at around $6,000 per month. The company believes the service will initially appeal to enterprise customers in Taiwan, with plans to expand internationally in 2023.

Asustek Computer, commonly known as Asus, is a Taiwanese multinational hardware and electronics company that produces personal computers, laptops, motherboards, graphics cards, and mobile phones. Originally founded in 1989, Asus has grown to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of computer components.

Peter Wu is both the Cloud and TWS President at Asus. He is believed to have been instrumental in driving the development of the AFS Appliance rental service. Wu has been with the company for over twenty years, and his experience in management and the technology sector makes him an ideal candidate for spearheading Asus’ AI initiatives.
