New AI Technology by Jeep Will Facilitate Off-Road Driving

Date:

Jeep is working on a new technology that could help drivers navigate off-road terrain using autonomous driving. The company is exploring the use of artificial intelligence to create autonomous systems capable of functioning far from the safety of a city street. In tests conducted in Utah using the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, the firm pushed its AI technology to fluently navigate sand, rock, and dirt paths. Jeep CEO, Christian Meunier, stated that the autonomous-driving system could help improve the performance of experienced off-road drivers, as well as allowing new drivers to confidently explore the wilderness. The company intends to expand its testing of the new AI system in the coming months, with a full reveal of its capabilities due in the summer of 2021.

Jeep is an American company primarily engaged in the production of off-road vehicles. The company was founded in 1941 and is presently a division of the Italian-American multinational corporation, Stellantis. Jeep models such as the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee have become popular choices worldwide, thanks in large part to their sleek designs and ruggedness.

Christian Meunier is the current CEO of Jeep who is leading the brand’s push to introduce autonomous driving off-road. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Meunier had held leading positions at Mitsubishi, Nissan, and Infiniti. A Canadian citizen, Meunier holds a degree in business administration and marketing from the Université du Québec à Montréal.
