ChatGPT creator Sam Altman believes living on Mars is a terrible idea; Earth is delightful.

Date:

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the parent company of popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, has expressed his negative views about the idea of living on Mars. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, has often talked about his desire to establish a self-sustaining city on Mars in the next two decades. However, Altman disagrees, saying he has ‘no desire to go and live on Mars’ and that Earth is ‘really quite wonderful’ due to its unique characteristics. He suggested that sending robots to Mars to ‘spruce it up a little bit’ would be more feasible than attempting to establish human life there.

Altman and Musk were business partners in the past, with Musk being one of the co-founders of OpenAI in 2015. However, in 2018, Musk left the company, citing a ‘conflict of interest situation’ as his other companies, Tesla and SpaceX, were also working on AI technologies. OpenAI recently entered into a partnership with Microsoft which was worth millions of dollars.

ChatGPT, the AI tool developed by OpenAI, swiftly became a popular solution for a variety of tasks such as writing poetry, composing music, and writing essays. Although initially banned in public schools in New York, the ban was subsequently reversed, recognizing the potential of the emerging technology.

OpenAI is a non-profit company established with the aim of exploring and developing AI technology safely and transparently. However, it now has a for-profit arm that focuses on commercializing AI technologies.
