One-Third of College Students Utilized ChatGPT for Academic Work During 2022-23 Year: Intelligent Survey

Date:

A recent survey conducted by Intelligent.com has revealed that about one-third of college students in the United States used ChatGPT, an AI tool, for school work during the 2022-23 academic year. The survey further shows that 46% of the students who used ChatGPT frequently did so for English while 41% did for ‘hard’ sciences such as chemistry and biology. In addition, 78% of college ChatGPT users were ‘somewhat’ or ‘highly’ likely to recommend the AI tool for studying to other students. Moreover, the majority of ChatGPT users did not see their grades improve significantly, with only 1 in 5 students who did not initially have a 4.0 GPA at the beginning of fall 2022 recording an improved GPA by spring 2023.

ChatGPT, the AI tool that many college students used extensively during the past academic year, was launched in November 2022. The tool has proven useful to students studying English, ‘hard’ sciences, ‘soft’ sciences, and math, among other disciplines.
