Intel Meteor Lake PC Chips Accelerating AI Technologies This Year

Date:

Intel’s upcoming PC chip, Meteor Lake, will include features that accelerate certain AI tasks, improving its operation without draining too much battery. The new processor is expected to ship later this year and includes features that can enhance AI capabilities, such as recognizing people more accurately and replacing backgrounds during video conferences. By including AI acceleration in laptop and phone processors, there is an increased chance that developers will write more software drawing on AI abilities, benefiting both the software creators and users. Although GPUs are already suitable for accelerating AI, the new AI-specific accelerator is good for low power, resulting in considerably less battery usage. The Meteor Lake chip is also seen as critical for Intel’s comeback, designed for lower power operations, it’s a major competitive weakness compared to Apple’s M-series processors.

Intel is a leading computer processor manufacturer and a giant in the tech industry. The corporation designs and manufactures microprocessors and chipsets to be used in personal computers, servers, workstations, and mobile devices.

John Rayfield is the leader of Intel’s client AI work and has helped develop the PC chip, Meteor Lake. He highlighted the AI acceleration features that Meteor Lake will include, promoting improved video conference backgrounds, as well as voice recognition and transcription. He believes that more AI work will migrate to PCs, eventually rivaling that of CPU and GPU cores.
