Review of Citadel on Prime Video: Did ChatGPT Write This Mediocre Spy Thriller?

Date:

Citadel, the spy thriller created by the Russo Brothers and aired on Prime Video, has generated a lot of buzz even before its release, but that does not necessarily translate to a good product. Despite their attempt to curate a mishmash of genres, from James Bond to Pathaan, Citadel did not live up to expectations. In the six episodes released, the series often appears emotionless, unoriginal, and soulless.

Created by Josh Applebaum (who has written other movies like Mission: Impossible) and David Weil (who is set to premiere an upcoming series based on the FTX crypto scandal), Citadel’s lack of creativity is nothing surprising. Applebaum himself has already written an excellent fourth Mission: Impossible movie, while Weil’s new project should hopefully feature a better production.

ChatGPT wrote this mediocre spy thriller, and while it garnered initial attention from the public, Citadel failed to deliver on its promises. With weak performances and an uninspired story, it simply fails to do justice to the spy genre. Even though the Russo Brothers served as executive producers for the show, it was clear that they were more interested in drumming up public attention, rather than focusing on the content itself.
