China’s AI battle is heating up as Baidu, the Chinese search engine giant, prepares to incorporate a chatGPT-like feature to its search engine system. Earlier this year, Baidu CEO Robin Li announced its newest AI-powered language model, Ernie 3.5, at China’s Zhongguancun Forum. This model powers Baidu’s Ernie Bot, which was met with mixed reviews after it went into a public phase of testing.
Baidu has invited a few companies and users to provide feedback on its AI model, and Ernie Bot has remained in trial mode since then. But the company isn’t the only one getting in on the action; Alibaba Group Holding owns DingTalk, a Slack-like application which is aimed at monetizing its features similar to chatGPT, while Alibaba’s DAMO Academy is slowly incorporating the model into the smart home device Tmall Genie.
Founded in 2000, Baidu is one of the largest technology companies in the world. It provides services such as a search engine, artificial intelligence, internet of things, cloud computing and smart hardware, among many others. Its strengths lie in data-driven intelligence approaches and its ability to apply innovative technologies to strengthen the development of new products and services.
Robin Li is the Chairman and CEO of Baidu, Inc. He has been in charge for the company’s incredible success. Li has overseen AI advancements such as face recognition, visual speech recognition and autonomous driving. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Peking University in Computer Science and a Master’s from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has been named an adjunct professor at several universities, including Peking University and the University of Radboud in the Netherlands.
As Baidu continues to broaden its AI network, its search engine could further be revolutionized by the Ernie 3.5 language model–a technology that could potentially be beneficial to all users.
