Comparing OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s BERT: A Battle of AI Dialogue Technology

Date:

The arena of artificial intelligence has been revolutionary in recent years, especially when it comes to chatbots’ conversational AI capabilities. OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard are two technological marvels that have absolutely surged forward in the development of conversational AI. Both groundbreaking implementations have come to life with their own strengths and capabilities, allowing a friendly face-off to take place in the arenas of artificial intelligence dialogue.

When looking at their ability to replicate human conversation, it is clear that both come out on top. ChatGPT has a diverse range of internet text use for training, while Bard draws its main capabilities from the Google Infiniset dataset, which sources dialogues from public forums, English and non-English texts, and code documents. While ChatGPT is immensely convincing in keeping up its responses’ authenticity, Bard has the upper hand when it comes to open-ended conversation. This AI marvel can maintain its contextual relevancy even when the conversation meanders off in unpredictable directions, as well as access real-time data for information. However, this is sometimes its downfall as it can also produce hallucinations and inaccuracies.

Usability-wise, Bard’s interface is smoother and more straightforward, while ChatGPT holds its own incredibly well in the text processing department, producing elaborate and accurate results. Furthermore, Google provides Bard’s services free of charge, while ChatGPT operates on a freemium model. Yet, as Suman Saha, CTO of Nosh Technologies, states, the choice between the two isn’t exactly a matter of cost, as each model has its own strengths and can complement the other.

It is worth noting that although both are revolutionary advancements, neither has reached true AI conversation capabilities as of yet. It is essential that we recognize the significant role human supervision plays in the accuracy and credibility of the AI’s outputs. It is only by understanding and utilizing the strengths and weaknesses of both ChatGPT and Bard that we can use them to their full potential to further transform and enhance the digital world.
