Windows 11 Improves Process Killing Time to Match macOS

Date:

Windows 11, the latest installment of the Windows operating system family, is getting a nifty update allowing users to quickly kill unresponsive apps. This feature is commonly known as a ‘force closing’ or force quitting. This new update should make troubleshooting apps a lot easier and quicker than the current system of accessing the Task Manager to find and end processes.

The ability to force close unresponsive applications from the taskbar was first spotted in test builds of Windows 11 and has generated buzz ever since. Microsoft has now officially confirmed that the feature will be included in Windows 11.

This functionality follows in the footsteps of macOS which already has this ability. No longer will Windows 11 users have to open their Task Manager and manually find and terminate the misbehaving app, a process that can often be time consuming and tricky.

The announcement of the force close feature was amongst many other important changes identified at Microsoft’s Build conference, a virtual conference for developers. Windows 11 will now also include native support for Extracting and Zipping 7-Zip and RAR files, meaning users will no longer have to rely on third-party utilities.

Another announcement that has caused a stir is the introduction of Microsoft’s AI-enabled Copilot in Windows 11. This AI-powered assistant can perform various tasks like playing music, accessing files, running apps, and managing notifications.

Overall, Windows 11 is making great strides in a bid to catch up to macOS. With the all in one development suite in Visual Studio, Power Platforms, Cloud and AI and the new easy-to-use force close feature, Windows 11 is a powerful OS and will surely take the lead as the preferred OS for countless users.
