Apple’s Groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Progress

Date:

Apple has been researching and developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for decades, and by now its technology has far surpassed the expectations of many. This is mainly in part due to the visible effects of Apple’s successful implementation of AI and ML within its products. Notable features include Core ML, Face ID, Siri, and Apple Neural Engine. Additionally, Apple has consistently been conducting research on developing techniques that can enhance user privacy.

Tim Bajarin, a longtime Apple analyst, weighed in on the situation, claiming that Apple is hesitant to open up about its advances in AI and ML following the backlash against Microsoft’s Bing AI and Google’s recently released ChatGPT competitor. For example, ways Apple has historically showcased its AI includes pioneering Knowledge Navigator in 1987 and Kaifu Lee’s opening of the speech recognition project in 1990.

Given the scrutiny being placed on the AI products made by other tech powerhouses, it is sensible for Apple to refrain from jumping into the ChatGPT fray. While Bing’s and Google’s AI are indeed excellent products, their successes are often overshadowed by criticism and flaws pointed out by researchers and journalists. Instead, Apple is honing its internal strategy and waiting for the right time to introduce its own AI-based offerings.
