Journalists’ Jobs: Is AI Technology Really Ready to Take Over?

Date:

AI Technology will not be able to completely take over journalists’ jobs – hence, it is important to understand how the technology can be utilized in order to increase efficiency and accuracy. This was the consensus provided by Media Prima Bhd Television Networks news editor Kamaruddin Mape in the Bernama Radio’s Jendela Fikir programme for the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2023. The programme discussed the Revolution of Broadcasting in Malaysia, ASEAN and The World.

Kamaruddin Mape argued that while AI technology can help to make certain tasks more effective, it is unable to replace human decision-making because of humans’ superior ability to evaluate what is good and bad. He believes that the media industry and journalists must learn and understand AI technology in order to be able to use it effectively.

Meanwhile, Media Prima Bhd is a Malaysian media investment holding company. It is one of the largest integrated media conglomerates in the country, with arm operations in television, radio, print, and digital, serving over 27 million viewers and more than 20 million readers. Some of its core brands are TV3, 8TV, ntv7, and tonton.

Kamaruddin Mape is the Group Editor of News and Current Affairs at Media Prima Bhd. He is an experienced journalist with 25 years of experience in the media industry. He is a strong advocate of responsible media representation and focuses on creating balanced and critical reportage in Malaysia.

In conclusion, AI technology can be a great tool for journalists to help them increase efficiency and accuracy. But, it will not be able to completely take over a journalist’s job, as it is humans who still possess the power of judgement and evaluation when it comes to making decisions. As Kamaruddin Mape said, the media industry and journalists need to understandAI technology as soon as possible in order to be able to use it in the most effective way.
